Bringing laws down to where action happens, the Provincial Government of La Union, through the Provincial Government-Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO), joined the Municipality of Pugo in equipping 100 grassroots leaders with knowledge on key environmental laws during a two-day Capacity Building on Solid Waste Management through Recycling and Upcycling held October 14, 2026, at the Pugo Municipal Hall, Pugo, La Union.
The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Pugo spearheaded the Information, Education, and Communication Campaign in collaboration with the PG-ENRO, serving as resource speaker and technical support provider. This initiative gathered participants from Pugo Barangay Councils and LGU Personnel to strengthen local enforcement of environmental policies, ensuring that grassroots leaders are empowered to safeguard the environment.
During the campaign, PG-ENRO discussed the Republic Act (RA) 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, RA 6969 or the Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Wastes Control Act, RA 9275 or the Philippine Clean Water Act, and Presidential Decree 705 or the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines. The session also tackled Provincial Ordinance No. 426-2023, known as the Plastic Code of La Union, and the Legal and Regulatory Framework for Furniture Shops in the Philippines.
