Posted on June 24, 2026.
Five more scholars have recently engaged in laboratory-intensive training conducted in the Cardiovascular Metabolic Disease Core Research Support Center, Inje University on June 2-11, 2026, after the first batch of scholars participated in the Science Immersion Program (SIP) in the institution last May.
This batch of students also immersed themselves in laboratory and research activities including Cell and Molecular Analysis, Cell Viability Assay, Animal Sacrifice, Echocardiography, and Confocal and Western Blot Imaging. These experiences enable them to practice and improve valuable research and laboratory skills under the mentorship of professional scientists and experts in the field of Research and Medical Science.
Beyond laboratory skills, they also participated in collaborative discussions, culminating and cultural activities, enriching their understanding and appreciation for both the field of Science and the South Korean culture.

About the program and mentors
The Science Immersion Program is the PSHS System's main tool to developing globally competitive Filipino scholars who are equipped with strong foundations in science and mathematics while also providing avenue to express their creativity, leadership, and entrepreneurial skills needed to address future challenges.
The DOST-PSHS System once again extends its heartfelt gratitude to the researchers and mentors who generously shared their knowledge and expertise in their respective fields for the two batches of Pisay scholar-interns: Professor Jin Han, MD PhD; Professor Hyoung Kyu Kim, PhD; Professor Jae Beom Youm, MD, PhD; Maria Victoria Faith Garcia, PhD; Jubert Marquez, PhD; Jessa Flores, PhD Candidate; Prycelline Abedejos; and Jed Allyn Hernandez.
Following this successful collaboration, the System looks forward to more promising scientific and educational partnerships that will open opportunities for future generations of Filipino students to engage in world-class research and global collaboration.
