To support the development of emotionally resilient and practice-ready health professionals, the Human Resource Development Unit (HRDU) of the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH WV CHD) led the successful conduct of "The Making of a Leader: A Mental Resilience Activity" for Pre-Service Scholarship Program (PSSP) scholars last July 7-12, 2025, in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
Under the leadership of Regional Director Annabelle P. Yumang, the HRDU, in close collaboration with the Health Human Resource Development Bureau (HHRDB) and supported by MHPSS personnel, public health experts, and LGU representatives, delivered a dynamic lineup of sessions focused on emotional awareness, leadership development, group processing, financial literacy, and crisis navigation. By integrating interactive activities such as film-based reflections, art therapy, and plenary sharing, the program offered a safe, empowering space for the scholars to reflect, connect, and strengthen their sense of purpose.
The program notably emphasized the importance of mental wellness and emotional preparedness. It featured the dedicated service of Dr. Johanna S. Banzon, Director IV of HHRDB, and Dr. Quennie Dyan C. Raagas, CDMD Division Chief, along with other exemplary consultants and medical professionals who contributed their expertise throughout the event, ensuring a comprehensive support system for all participants.
The event embodied the department's commitment to holistic human resource development and scholar welfare. As the health sector prepares future professionals for frontline realities, DOH WV CHD continues to lead holistic capacity-building efforts that equip future health workers not just with skills and knowledge but with the mental resilience to lead and serve with purpose.
