San Jacinto is the first pueblo in the island of Ticao and one of the oldest town in the Province of Masbate with the exception of Masbate – the capital town. As early as 15 century, tribes of nomadic origin unknowingly settled in the island unknown to them. They were the first primitive settlers in the island.
The year was 1603 a vinta laden with Muslim Sailors seeing the vast, ever-green plains of Ticao Island settled and made a clearing in what is now “Rondahan”. In the same year, an English Frigate happened to pass in what is known today as Ticao Pass. Noticing the panoramic vista of the terrain, the English Captain sighted a native on top of a rock pounding a vine. The white man motioned with his arm as a gesture of friendship and attempted to ask for the name of the island in the foreign tongue.
