Over 25 weaving communities from across the Philippines will bring their authentic handwoven textiles and cultural stories closer to the public as the Philippine Handloom Weaving Festival (PHWF) 2026 seeks to expand the market for Filipino handwoven products and spotlight emerging textile technologies that advance the country's local weaving industry.
The three-day festival, set for September 18 to 20, 2026, at the Quantum Skyview, Gateway Mall 2 in Araneta City, Quezon City, will provide a platform for local weavers to showcase textiles rooted in traditional cultural expressions while connecting their craftsmanship with a wider Filipino audience. More than a showcase of handwoven products, it will equip visitors and weaving communities with opportunities for textile technology immersion, highlighting innovations that can help document, authenticate, protect, and further develop Philippine textile traditions.
The festival will feature technologies developed by the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), including its DigiTELAzation program, which works with weaving communities across the Philippines to document local textiles, digitize traditional patterns, and develop technologies for authenticating and protecting handwoven products.
As part of the immersion, visitors and local weavers will also be introduced to the SalinHABI Mobile App, one of the key initiatives under DigiTELAzation. The application allows communities to digitally document and register their weaving patterns while providing consumers with information about a textile's origin, materials, and cultural significance.
